This is a simple craft book that would be appropriate for children or for someone taking first steps in learning Origami.

The contents are rather cute, using pictures instead of text to indicate where each animal is found. The designs are fairy basic, and include some farmyard animals, several birds and some jungle animals.

One of the nice things about the book is the pictures of whole scenes made with several animals and backgrounds that could be easily cut out of construction paper. It would make great examples for primary school teachers or anyone else who works with children and wants to teach them multiple layer art, but in an uncomplicated way.

There are just a few symbols to remember and easy color diagrams for how to make each fold.

Overall an excellent beginning book.

The title says it all - this is great book that enables people following the instructions to make up to 23 different origami models of animals, none of which require more than 16 steps using basic folds. The book is well presented with clear instructions that are easy to follow and result in recognisable models!

Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley for letting me look at this book in exchange for this, an honest review.

I love origami. There is something so relax and fun about making something out of just paper.

I've made origami before, so I had an idea what I was doing when I started working through the animals in the book. I like that it has simple diagrams that are easy to read. The only animal I had trouble was the standing crane, and I could not get the legs to work. That one part needed some clarifications, but everything else I could understand.

There was a wide range of animals from very easy to somewhat tricky. I like the variety included as there are animals from almost every type, and very few are created the same way.

My favourite was the elephant, and not just because it's one of the first 3D style animals. Elephants are my favourite animal ever, and I was super happy to produce a good looking origami version. It's going on my elephant shelf for sure.

Overall, if you like origami, I'd suggest checking out the book. It has simple creations that are suitable for beginners, with good instructions, but there is enough variety and creativity that even seasoned folders will find an animal or two to enjoy.

This would be a lovely second or third basic origami book. The author has designed a few simple animal bases and (without explicitly stating this is the aim) explores simple modifications to change the animal represented by the final model. This progression gives a subtle introduction to some of the underlying principles of origami.

One of my favourite examples is the "flying crane" vs the "standing crane". The flying crane model looks very like the traditional crane, but is folded very different

One of my favourite examples is the "flying crane" vs the "standing crane". The flying crane model looks very like the traditional crane, but is folded very differently. The standing crane is a modification of the flying crane which introduces a few extra folds to produce legs.

Some of the steps might be difficult to follow if you haven't folded 15 or 20 models before, but the instructions and diagrams are clear and simple.

The elephant is now my favourite "gift for the waitress" origami model.

Recommends it for: elementary, middle grades
Easy Origami Animals is a great origami book for beginners or for folders interested in some new ideas. With easy-to-follow directions, diagrams, and pictures, even beginners can make some fun animals. I really loved all of the designs and hadn't seen many of these before, so it was a treat. The cat, dog and fox all followed the same general pattern, but ended up obviously distinct and adorable! I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for a review:
I have read so many origami books, ranging from beginners to advanced mathematics and geometry heavy books, anytime I see a new book on the subject I read it, even if I have seen the same models a bunch of times, it is always nice to see how people approach them.

And it is no surprise that I have seen instructions on how to fold a mouse, or a lion, but seeing the authors take on classic models is always a treat. The instructions are cl

This book is what it says it is. Very easy to follow instructions, diagrams, and illustrations. Even my six year old son was doing some of these.

What a wonderful starter book for Origami. These simple patterns are great for children, beginners and older adults. The animal patterns are fun and children especially like the finished folded animals on their desk and bedside. With so many printed papers available for scrapbooking, it's easy to make lifelike versions. What a wonderful starter book for Origami. My 10 year old grandson loves this easy to follow book. He has spent many hours playing with shapes, and oftentimes, this is a jumping off point for him.
